In 2011 Heathrow airport was the busiest UK Airport handling a record 69.4 million passengers and 476,197 flights; according to BAA figures more than one in five flights were delayed departing Heathrow in 2011.
A recent survey of International Airlines has revealed that they are actively looking at abandoning Heathrow in favour of less congested airports. The data, released by the Board of Airline Representatives, highlights how over 50 per cent of carriers are relocating their services elsewhere in light of the UK flagship airport's extreme capacity issues.
The Board of Airline Representatives (BAR UK) data also highlights how no less than 86 per cent of the airlines surveyed would effectively bring more business to the UK if Heathrow could accommodate more flights.
International Airlines Group (IAG) has completed the purchase of BMI from Lufthansa this will give the British Airways over 50% of the take-off and landing slots.
Rumour has it that Transport Secretary Justine Greening may be looking at proposals for a Rail Link from Reading to Terminal 5.
